TAE Gallery: artwork, photography, poetry, songs, and book arts

Over the Years

Over the years I have written verse,
Some was better, some was worse
(Incidentally, I cannot claim
That making bucks was ever my aim
When writing poems either long or terse).

When I was young I would often rehearse
The lines of great poets and then would nurse
My own poems and dream one day of fame,
    over the years.

I cannot accept the ultimate curse
That awaits us all and wish to reverse
The reality we all know by name
But will not mention, praise, or blame
For taking our poets away in a hearse,
    over the years.
