Root Canal

New roots look beautiful on the x-ray,
After drilling, gouging and packing is done,
Pain in retreat as Novocain wears away.

With all his tools arrayed upon a tray
Above my reclining chest, work has begun.
New roots look beautiful on the x-ray.

Needle’s numbing nectar fills my gums today,
Then a short wait following the injection.
Pain in retreat as Novocain wears away.

A high-speed drill bores deep to clear a way
To the tooth’s root canals which are now open.
New roots look beautiful on the x-ray.

Digging, scraping soon ream out the decay
Which is then treated to sterilization.
Pain in retreat as Novocain wears away.

Filling each root, closing the tooth, then pay
At the door on my way out at a fast run.
New roots look beautiful on the x-ray,
Pain in retreat as Novocain wears away.
