Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel Stage

This page is part of my 1999 entry for an international competition for the design of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC.

"I say to you today, my friends: Though we face difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream."

This was a Rev. King quote I chose to inscribe on the curved wall of this outdoor chapel, situated in line between the MLK momument and the Jefferson Memorial. I pictured a life-size bronze statue of Rev. King standing on stage, speaking to a small congregation. Of course, I envisioned this stage as a chapel for smaller services, weddings,  celebrations for those who have passed, and for many other life-giving events. We each have, and sometimes share, our own dreams, but also embrace Rev. King's greater dreams.
