Martin Luther King Jr. Monument
This page is part of my 1999 entry for an international competition for the design of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC.
I sketched this portrait of Martin, using watercolor and pencil, reflected in a conceptual pond.
The glass portrait of the King Monument—etched on a very large, round glass plate—will be lit from within the tubular frame, glowing from dusk to dawn with eternal radiance and lending a peaceful watch to the night.
This image was used in my poetry chapbook Horizon.
I wrote a poem about this event called "White Boy in Harlem."
